$28 Spring Entryway Refresh: Dollar Tree + Goodwill Magic
OKAY so my entryway was still giving full "winter cave" on March 5, 2026.
Dark mirror. Zero color. Mail pile energy.
And I was NOT spending $150 on seasonal decor that sits in a bin for 9 months.
So I gave myself a strict $28 budget and did a full spring entryway decor reset with one thrift flip and a tiny Dollar Tree run.
Total project cost: $28.
The Plan (Fast + Cheap + Rental Friendly)
I wanted one big visual change and two small styling moves:
- Flip a thrifted mirror so the whole wall looked modern.
- Add spring stems for color.
- Add one tray so the drop zone looked styled, not chaotic.
No drilling into rental walls. No giant shopping haul. No fake "budget" math.
What I Bought
| Item | Store | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Rectangular mirror with solid frame | Goodwill (Gallatin area) | $12 |
| Faux spring stems (4 x $1.25) | Dollar Tree | $5 |
| Small tray | Target Bullseye's Playground | $5 |
| Heavy-duty picture hanging strips | Target | $6 |
| TOTAL | $28 |
Quick note: Dollar Tree's base price is still commonly $1.25 for core items, so four stems landed right at $5.
Step-by-Step: $12 Goodwill Mirror Flip
Checked the mirror "bones" before buying
I skipped anything cracked, warped, or wobbly. This one was ugly (very shiny 90s gold), but structurally solid.
Light sanding (10 minutes)
I used fine-grit sandpaper to knock down the gloss so paint would stick.
Tape + paint (about 30 minutes active)
I taped the glass edge and used leftover matte black Rust-Oleum I already had, so paint cost in this project was $0.
Dry + cure (24 hours)
This is where DIY blogs lie to you. Drying time counts. If you rush this, the finish gets weird fast.
Renter-friendly hang with strips (15 minutes)
I used heavy-duty strips and followed package weight limits exactly.
Dollar Tree Spring Styling Hack (How to Pick the Good Stems)
Not all faux stems are equal. Some look super shiny and plastic up close.
What I look for at Dollar Tree:
- More matte petals (less fake shine)
- Wrapped wire stems you can bend naturally
- Greenery mixed into the stem so you don't need to buy filler
I used 4 stems in a vase I already owned and fluffed them wider so they looked fuller.
The Reveal
Before: dark, heavy, winter leftovers.
After: black-framed mirror, soft spring color, cleaner drop zone, and way brighter first impression when you walk in.
(Jae's reaction:) "Wait... all of this was twenty-eight dollars?"
YES. Twenty-eight.
If you're looking for spring entryway decor, budget spring decor, and a genuinely rental friendly spring update, this is the project.
Try it this weekend. Then send me your before/after because I live for those.
